Army Rugby Union Women - Sports tour to Australia

Army Rugby Union Women in Australia

The Army Rugby Union Women have recently returned from their rugby tour to Australia with Teamlink Sports Tours. With a successful 2012 rugby season, including a 66-0 victory against their Navy counterparts, the ARUW were looking for the ultimate end of season tour. Destination – Australia!

The Land Down Under: There is no place for sporting adventure quite like Australia. Stunning natural beauty, wide-open spaces alongside thriving coastal cities make for an unbeatable combination. Taking in the cities of Brisbane and Sydney, The Army Rugby Women had a chance to see Australia in all its glory.

Still recovering from Jet-lag, the Army took to the field for their first fixture of tour against an invitational Sydney Select XV. Blowing the cobwebs out, this fixture proved to be a close game for the British team, with the score changing hands throughout the fixture. The Army were unfortunate to miss out on a win, with the game ending 20-22 to the Sydney based team. The fixture served as a great tour opener, allowing the Army to get some time on the field ahead of their second tour fixture against the Australian Services Rugby Union (ASRU).

A cold and wet day more typical of Aldershot than Sydney was the setting for the ARUW’s second fixture of their Tour ‘Down Under’. The Army Team took to the field of Victoria Barracks determined to claim their first scalp of tour. With the weather continuing to deteriorate, the fixture progressed into a forward orientated game and proved to be a bruising encounter between the two sides with the Army eventually coming out on top and claiming a well deserved victory. This game rounded off the tour, with both fixtures proving to be a perfect match for the British Army Women.

With the last few days of tour remaining, the touring side had time to relax in Sydney. As the largest, richest, most culturally diverse city in Australia, Sydney is quite rightly at the top of most travellers ‘to visit’ lists. With a whole host of local sights on offer the team made the most of their time in this amazing city, taking time to reflect on both their successful season, and their end of season Military Sports Tour.
