Chipstead RFC U17: Bruges, Belgium

On a chilly October morning Chipstead RFC U17's boarded a coach bound for the Belgian city of Bruges. The 6.30am start didn't stop the boys and parents from being in excellent mood and after a short trip on the Eurotunnel, the group reached their accommodation and set out on exploring the beautiful city

DAY TWO: After a short journey the group arrived in Ghent to play their opponents, Ghent RFC. After a rousing team talk from the Head Coach, the boys came out determined to play well and get points on the board. After a slow start punctuated with handling errors and guilty of trying the 50/50 pass a few times too often, Chipstead hit their stride. Despite a brief spell of pressure, Chipstead took apart their tiring opponents in the last 20 to seal a comfortable victory. After some post match drinks, some singing and exchanging of badges and ties the group returned to Bruges to celebrate their triumph.

In the morning a few weary faces, coupled with headaches showed that the previous evenings' celebrations had gone well - for the parents!  However, the boys had little time to feel sorry for their elders as they prepared for their final fixture of the tour. A meal in the multitude of restaurants in Bruges ensured the boys were right as rain for the fixture against Dendermonde RFC. The boys hit the ground running from the kick off, running with purpose and any notion that the stuttered start and handling errors would plague them again were blown away in a performance of epic proportions, dominating Belgium's Premier rugby club from start to finish. After a delightful BBQ and post match drinks, the man of the match was to be decided. A huge call for the coaches considering all of Chipstead's boys played their part and contributed to what was a stellar performance.

The next day the group awoke for the return journey to Chipstead. After the tour awards (both serious and humorous) were presented the weary group arrived back at Chipstead with the signs that a successful and memorable tour was had by all.
