This annual tournament (for male and female teams), is in rememberance of the club's deceased captain and co-founder Walter 'Wakke' Goris. Rugby Club Laakdal was founded over 25 years ago and every year 10 - 16 teams from various countries compete in excellent spirit for the Wakke Memorial Cup. 2012 is already expecting teams from Belgium, France, Holland, UK and Germany to participate. For the last 5 years the tournament has been won by British teams, so what are you waiting for - get involved and keep the tradition going! 

Tournament Format

Throughout the weekend all teams are guaranteed 3-4 games, all of 2 x 12 minutes halves. In each game 3 points will be awarded for a win, 2 points per team in the event of a drawn game and 1 point for a loss. When a team is not ready on time for the kick-off or is forfeiting the game, no points will be awarded. (They will loose the game with 15 - 0). The matches will be played 10 a side, which brings fast games and fun for back and forwards. The tournament itself will be played in pools of 3 to 5 teams, from which the winners go to the semi-finals, and finals. Utilising 2 pitches the qualifying rounds will take place between 09.30 and 15.00 on the Saturday. The final rounds will be played between 16.00-18.00 and from 19.00 tournament prizes will be awarded. The day will end with a huge RUGGERS PARTY late into the night...

Sample Itinerary

Sample 4-Day Itinerary:

Day 1 - Your executive coach will pick you up from your sporting club house and begin the journey to Belgium. You will embark on the channel crossing from Dover / Folkestone to Calais (subject to using Eurotunnel or ferry crossing). You will then be transferred to your chosen tour accommodation. When at the accommodation you will check in and the night will be at your leisure.

Day 2 - This will be a free day, Teamlink would be happy to arrange excursions or fixtures for your rugby team. Your executive coach will be available throughout the day.

Day 3 - You will be transferred to the Wakke Memorial Rugby Tournamnet venue via your executive coach transport. The tournament will begin at 10:00 and continue through until 16:30. After the tournament post match hospitality will be provided by the Wakke Rugby Club along with the prize giving ceremony. Following the post match entertainment you will be transferred back to your chosen tour accommodation and the night is at your leisure.

Day 4 - Your executive coach transfer from your chosen tour accommodation to Calais, where you will embark on your return channel crossing back to the UK and your rugby club house.
