Sri Lanka Sports Tours

Sat in the Indian ocean, Sri Lanka offers colonial history with some spectacular natural attractions of its own, specifically the wildlife filled inland rainforests and pristine beaches and coastline. Its most famous attribute, without question, is its people who possess a warm and friendly nature reflected in persistent smiling faces. It’s impossible to stay anything but relaxed when visiting this safe and secure sports-crazy country. Rugby, hockey and football enjoy a strong following but fall some way behind netball and cricket, the latter of which is played constantly wherever you cast your eye throughout this magical land!

Sri Lanka is tropical, with distinct dry and wet seasons. The seasons are slightly complicated by having two monsoons. From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season lasts from December to March. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. The Maha monsoon blows from October to January, bringing rain to the North and East, while the dry season is from May to September. The North and East are comparatively dry, with around 1000mm of rain annually. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island.

The superb international cricket ground dominates the southern section of the city that’s nestled between tea houses and attractions that you can explore freely on foot. The town is still touted as ‘Little England’, an illusion maintained by the presence of an 18 hole golf course, a racecourse, the Victoria Park and several tea plantations boasting original machinery imported from the UK. Whilst in town, tourists have the opportunity of visiting the tea fields to watch the ladies picking leaves for the plantations and subsequently enjoying a fresh brew in the factory shops. It doesn’t get more authentic than that! Enquire now
