The motto of this Caribbean island is "The Land, The People, The Light" and it is a fitting one, summing up St Lucia’s three most attractive qualities - the breathtaking tropical scenery, the welcoming inhabitants and the year round sunshine. Relatively small – St Lucia is a little over a third of the size of London – it is easy to reach the many activities available with water sports and rainforest hiking popular among tourists.

While cricket is popular on the island, it doesn’t catch the public attention as in other parts of the Caribbean. That could change as in 2007 Darren Sammy became the first St Lucian to represent the West Indies at test level, posting figures that make him the team’s second best debutante ever. Until Sammy’s achievements really begin to bowl people over, football is likely to remain St Lucia’s dominant sport. Away from these two mainstays, netball is growing in popularity while rugby is also available.
